Earning recognition Saturday at the annual Kiwanis Bi-County Invitational, held this year at Amsterdam High School as a Field Athlete of the Meet, was Broadalbin-Perth’s Jeff Derwin thanks to a meet-record 57-foot throw in the shot put.
The only track wins by competitors not from Amsterdam were B-P’s Joey Vitalis in the boys 1,600 meters, Johnstown’s Brandon Mraz in the boys 3,200 meters and Mayfield/Northville eighth-grader Madison Relyea in the girls 3,200 meters.
In girls field events, Gloversville’s Seirra Fancher won the high jump and Gloversville’s Brenna Wooster won the shot put.
In boys field events, Derwin won the shot put and finished second to Canajoharie’s Mike Hartlieb by just 14 inches in the discus throw. Fort Plain/OESJ’s Tyler Brado was a double winner in the high jump and triple jump, and B-P’s Chris Wagner was nearly four feet better than the rest of the competition in the pole vault.
