MAYFIELD — A benefit in support of the Caruso-McDermott family is scheduled for Saturday, May 13 at noon at Lanzi’s on the Lake, 1751 Route 30 in Mayfield.
According to a release, Patrick Caruso, 42, of Mayfield was in a snowmobile accident on Feb. 4. He spent the night alone on the ice of the Great Sacandaga Lake for more than 7 hours in below freezing temperatures.
When Caruso was found the next day by New York state police, he had to be airlifted to Albany Medical Center. He suffered serious injuries that will require continued hospitalization and therapy, which will become costly. It is unknown when or if Caruso will be able to return to work to support his family, Katie, Nico, Ryder and Collin.
The benefit was planned by Andrea Zielinski and Jessica Lachanski.
“I am looking forward to this event because it is giving back to a wonderful family who always gives back to others,” Zielinski said. “Katie and Pat are two of the most generous and thoughtful people you could ever be lucky enough to know. Unfortunately they are now dealing with a very difficult time. Pats injuries have left him with the potential of not being able to work in the future and because of that we want to help this family out and take some of the burden of finances off of them.
“Not only are they down to one income but they also will have some medical bills to take care of,” Zielinski continued. “So anything we can raise for them would be a huge help. I couldn’t think of a better family to help out. Katie, Pat, Nico, Ryder and Collin are so appreciative of everyones generosity. We look forward to celebrating Pat being ‘okay’ and being able to come home to his family.”
The benefit will feature food, entertainment by a DJ and live music by Flashback, a bounce house, basket raffle, 50/50 and a prize drawing at 4 p.m. The prizes include a $6,500 snowmobile trailer, a 1 hour scenic flight over the Sacandaga Lake for two, and a $250 Yeti Roadie 20 cooler.
Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for children. For more information, search for “Caruso-McDermott family benefit” on Facebook.
