BROADALBIN — Madison Oechler, 16, a student at Broadalbin-Perth High School is in critical condition following a motor vehicle crash that occurred Monday afternoon.
Oechler and Kevin Sherman, 42, of Broadalbin were airlifted to Albany Medical Center Monday night.
Shortly before 4 p.m. Monday the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call regarding a personal injury accident on County Highway 110 at the intersection of Lakeview Road in Broadalbin.
According to Fulton County Sheriff Richard Giardino, the driver of a pickup truck, Sherman, was heading toward Broadalbin when a car came through the intersection where there is a stop sign and the car was t-boned by the truck. Giardino said it appears that Sherman had the right of way.
According to Giardino, Oechler was listed in critical condition as of 10:30 a.m. Tuesday following a four-hour surgery. More details were unavailable at press time.
The sheriff said Sherman was ejected from his vehicle during the collision. He was airlifted to Albany Medical Center and was treated then released.
The driver of the other car, 16-year-old Olivia Fiorillo, was treated by ambulance service and released.
According to Giardino, a preliminary investigation showed no signs of alcohol or drugs being involved. He said blood samples were taken of the drivers and the investigation is ongoing.
The sheriff’s department was assisted by the state police, the Albany County Sheriff’s Office and the Broadalbin Fire Department and Ambulance Service, Ambulance Service of Fulton County, and Fulton County Emergency Coordinator Steve Santa Maria.
